Is Marriage Worth It?
Agape Catholic Ministries, specifically the Catholic Marriage Prep section, has offered online Catholic Marriage Preparation for the past 18 years! Dan and I have had the pleasure of being on their staff for the past two years and it has been a tremendous gift. We work alongside some of the most amazing and wonderful couples who work desperately to bring meaning to the Sacrament of marriage for many engaged couples.
In the past 18 years Agape has served over 60,000 couples. Some of the couples on the team have served thousands of these couples on their journey to matrimony. National Marriage Week was celebrated this last week and we culminated the week with World Marriage Day on Sunday, February 13, 2022. The theme this year is, “Called to the Joy of Love!” We spent some time asking our mentor couples, “Why do you think marriage is worth it?” We pray that their inspiring responses can help all of us reflect on the beauty of the sacrament, as well as see the joy of love they all live in their marriages!
My prayer is that you spend some time reflecting upon each of their responses and enter into the joy of the Sacrament of Matrimony! Enjoy!
“Marriage is most wonderful journey to holiness. Sometimes it is like a cruise in the storm, sometimes in quiet waters, but always amazing. Marriage is worth it to learn to step out of our comfort zone and overcome our selfish nature!
Marriage is worth it to learn what love truly is. Marriage is worth it to enrich and build a strong society. Marriage is worth it because it’s a vocation and a path to sanctity. We take each other to heaven. Marriage is worth it to give children the security and the foundations they need to grow and become holy. Marriage is worth it because it is an image of Christ’s love for His Church. Marriage is worth it because of so many things!”
– Christian and Christine Meert, founders of Catholic Marriage Prep.com
“Marriage is worth it because it is God’s will for our lives and He chose our spouse out of everyone in the world, just for us. In following the will of God, we are humbly blessed each and every day. Marriage is NEVER easy, but it is ALWAYS worth it!” – Tara and Dan, CatholicMarriagePrep.com Instructors
For us, MARRIAGE is worth it because it is a gift from God! It is the seedbed of LIFE…the seedbed of VOCATIONS!” – Jules and Maine, The Philippines
“Marriage is the beginning of a new, continuation of an old, and growth of a family reflecting our heavenly family. Each one who is part of the family is a unique and irreplaceable person, and within family we give of ourselves for the sake of others.” – ML
“Marriage is worth it because it helps us reach sanctity!” – R& C, Online Catholic Marriage Prep and Quince Prep Instructors
“For us, marriage is worth it because as we say in Catholic Marriage Prep- ‘Marriage is a school of love and graduation is in Heaven.’ The goal for us in marriage is to be able to reach Heaven” – Gerard and Iris, Catholic Marriage Prep Instructors
“Marriage is selfless as Christ taught us to be. It is no longer about you and your own desires, but you are now taking on the good and holiness of the other first and foremost.” – Sean and Marisabel, Online instructors, English, and Spanish Baptismal Prep
“Marriage is worth it because it is our path to holiness. It is an invitation to enter into a deep understanding of God’s love for us through one another and our children.” – Jeremy and Lily, Catholic Marriage Prep.com instructors
“Marriage is worth it because it gives you and your spouse the path and graces to be able to grow in holiness and it is a path to sainthood, which is the mission for all human beings created to the image of God. Besides that, getting married in the Catholic Church creates a special bond between the couple and God. You two are not alone anymore! And, with God by your side, you can face all the challenges that come your way and feel the strength to overcome them. Marriage is incredibly powerful!” – Carmen and Rudy, Spanish Catholic Marriage Prep Instructors
Prayer for Married Couples
Almighty and eternal God, You blessed the union of married couples so that they might reflect the union of Christ with his Church: look with kindness on them. Renew their marriage covenant, increase your love in them, and strengthen their bond of peace so that, with their children, they may always rejoice in the gift of your blessing. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
