The Eucharist: Our Greatest Gift

by | Jan 26, 2023 | Church, Prayer, Society, Spirituality

Approximately one in three American Catholics believes in the real presence.

This surprising demographic prompted U.S. bishops to launch an initiative to renew their flock’s devotion to the Eucharist. The Catechism states that the Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life”—the very foundation upon which our sacraments, witness, and ministry rest. Without it, our faith starts to crumble. If only a third of us believe in the real presence, then it’s time for a Eucharistic revival.

To that end, Agape Catholic Ministries is launching a Eucharistic revival campaign on social media. Every week, check our Instagram (@agapecatholicministries) for a new quote about the beautiful mystery of our Lord’s sacrifice of Himself for us in the Eucharist. We hope that these quotes will encourage you to dig deeper into your life in Him, remembering that He offers Himself for you at every mass, and that more than anything, He loves you.

As a teaser, here’s Saint Faustina on the necessity of receiving Jesus daily:

“I fear the day when I do not receive Holy Communion. This bread of the Strong gives me all the strength I need to carry on my mission and the courage to do whatever the Lord asks of me. The courage and strength that are in me are not of me, but of Him who lives in me – it is the Eucharist.”

Father Mike Schmitz builds on these thoughts in his talk, “The Hour That Will Change Your Life.” Provocatively titled I know, but he’s not exaggerating that the Eucharist changes our lives. We only need to accept this gift.

We hope the posts in our social media campaign inspire you to take your faith life to the next level. Whether it’s attending adoration more often, bringing a friend or family member to mass with you, or simply getting back to mass yourself, Jesus wants you there. He’s ready to offer you His body, blood, soul, and divinity. Run to Him.
