How do we sanctify the everyday?
Last evening at Mass, I saw a young man who was very engaged in his faith.
Before Mass began, he was reading the Scriptures on his cell phone, which he then set down beside him.
On the back of his phone was a large sticker that read: “I am the proud owner of a great car.”
It struck me: What a missed opportunity!
Sanctify the Everyday!
For years, I’ve been encouraging a simple word-of-mouth campaign—”Don’t miss the opportunity…Remember to Sanctify the Everyday!”
We Catholics have long filled our homes with holy reminders: images of Our Lord, Our Lady, the saints, and our heavenly friends.
Our walls, shelves, and even cars are often adorned with sacramentals, prayer cards, statues, rosaries, and medals.
Sometimes our homes look like a Catholic store—or even a private chapel!
But we don’t spend all our time at home or in our cars.
There’s one object we always carry with us, always in our hand, always in our line of sight: our cell phone.
So why not use this most visible and personal space to remind ourselves of God’s presence?
A holy image, a prayer card tucked in the case, a faith-filled sticker or background—these small things can help sanctify how we use our phone and what we use it for.
It’s a powerful way to keep our hearts anchored in the right place—and to witness quietly but clearly to the world.
