A Love Story Rooted in Faith, Surrender, and Miracle

A love story starts with a simple, but profound, yes—yes to faith, yes to commitment, and yes to trusting God even when the path forward felt uncertain. Harsimran and Alex share one of those love stories.

From an early age, Harsimran was told she would never be able to have children. Her own life began in the shadow of medical complications that affected her mother’s fertility—and later, her own. For years, she carried the weight of believing motherhood and enduring love might never be part of her future. She never expected to find someone who would love her fully and completely, just as she was.

Then she met Alex.

Alex fell in love with Harsimran, not in spite of her story, but embracing all of it. And in God’s providence, his love came with a beautiful gift: two children who were longing for a mother. What began as a love story between two hearts quickly unfolded into the making of a family—one rooted not in perfection, but in faith, surrender, and grace.

We recently had the joy of reconnecting with Harsimran and Alex, who completed our marriage preparation course just days before their wedding. Their journey since then has been nothing short of remarkable.

Tell us—when were you married?

“We completed the marriage prep course on December 27, 2023, and we were married just three days later, on December 30th.”

The timeline wasn’t originally planned that way. After realizing they had missed the required in-person retreat, and learning that marriage prep was a non‑negotiable, they were racing against the clock. Someone at their diocesan office suggested an online option, and that’s how they found Agapé.

What was your experience with the marriage prep course?

Their answer reflected a deep hunger…one many couples feel but don’t always know how to name.

“We knew we were longing for more than what we’d grown up seeing or what Hollywood sells as love.”

They weren’t looking for perfection, but for perseverance. Not romance alone, but understanding. Not just a lifelong commitment, but a love oriented toward eternity.

From the very beginning, the course felt different to them; personal, comprehensive, and deeply reflective.

“We printed out so many of the resources. And the funny thing is…we still argue. We sometimes don’t talk. We have wildly different interests. But everything keeps coming back to what we learned in the class.”

They spoke candidly about how the course gave them both practical tools and a spiritual lens: how to disagree constructively, how to repair beautifully, and how to ensure that even in conflict, love is never questioned.

Harsimran   said, “I often ask myself, ‘What would Jesus want me to do here?’”

We also asked them what their favorite takeaway was.

“The class feels like Marriage and Family Therapy on demand…and our therapist is Jesus.”

They described marriage not as a bond between two people, but three.

“When we live marriage the way the course described it, it feels like Jesus has a bedroom in our house. He lives there.”

What prompted you to reach out to Karen and Deano later on?

Life has a way of bringing moments full circle.

Harsimran   said, “I was stuck in traffic, listening to Raavi babble, and it suddenly hit me, I once thought she would never be real.”

In that moment, she thought of the people who had prayed faithfully for them during their marriage prep journey.

“Karen and Deano were part of that short, sacred list.”

Can you share your background and why you were told you’d never have a child?

This part of their story is marked by both pain and profound surrender.

She was diagnosed with PCOD in eighth grade, which later became full PCOS. By her teens, doctors told her she would likely never conceive. Her cycles were rare, often anovulatory, and her symptoms severe. Birth control was suggested as the only means of regulating her body—but even that felt like a moral and spiritual crossroads.

“The more we learned during marriage prep, the more I knew birth control would never be an option again.”

Together, they made a decision rooted in faith, not fear.

“If it was meant to happen, it would be on Jesus’ time.”

Her heart already held peace. She herself was adopted. Her husband had two beautiful children who called her mom from the very beginning.

“My heart was full. I was content. I was grateful.”

So how did you find out you were pregnant? Were you surprised?

“We treated intimacy the way it was meant to be—Jesus behind the wheel. We prayed, and we left it to Him.”

Then came the miracle.

On her husband’s first birthday after their wedding—in March—she conceived.

“I call her Alex’s birthday gift from Heaven.”

It was her husband who noticed first.

“He said, ‘You’re so sassy… are you sure you’re not pregnant?’”

Moments later, two lines appeared. Fear, disbelief, tears. A frantic video call to her parents. Joy from her father—and unexpectedly, fear from her mother, who worried their adopted boys would somehow be loved less.

Is there anything else you want to share?

Their story doesn’t end there.

This same year, the judge approved the adoption of the boys. As her hair slowly turned gray, her heart expanded beyond what she thought possible.

“I’ve realized I don’t love them less—I love them differently. And far more than I ever thought my heart could hold.”

Their family grew closer. Their faith deepened. And it all traced back to a foundation laid before their wedding day.

“It all started at Agapé—with the Gonzales.”

Stories like this remind us why marriage preparation matters—not as a requirement, but as an encounter. An encounter with truth, with grace, and with a God who is deeply invested in every family story.
